"Le Manuscrit" reads as a work of Nodier’s. It represents an amalgamation of his entire oeuvre, from its beginnings in Ljubljana to its ends at the Arsenal, with glimpses of his frequent meditations on the Vampire throughout. The details of Poitou legends and scenes from Inès de las Sierras all point to Nodier as author. Dumas seems to recognize the proximity of Inès and The Manuscript through certain details of his drame fantastique "Le Vampire". And it is difficult to believe that Paul Lacroix, a very serious bibliophile and bibliographer, would falsely claim to have seen his dear (...)
