Matteo Gozzi
Matteo Gozzi, born in Rome in 1979, began at the age of fifteen with black and white photography, developing his photographs in a darkroom. From 2001 to 2002 he studied photographic techniques at the Science University of Madrid. After receiving his D.A.M.S. [Studies in Art, Music and Theatre] degree conferred by the University of Roma Tre, and with initial experience in realizing documentaries and digital video film shorts, he dedicated himself to theatre research and experimentation. Between 2002 and 2007 he realized, as both director and playwright, three theatre performances which focused on experimentation in perceptive, visual and sensory communication. Driven by the need to confront different realities, he has, since 2008, decided to delve further into photography and make it his main activity. He attended a Masters in Photojournalism course at the ISFCI [Higher Institute of Photography and Integrated Communication] in Rome. Up till the present he has realized various photographic reportages, increasingly aiming his sights on man and man’s interaction with the social environment that surrounds him.
In 2008 he exhibited at the third collective edition of the International Festival of Photography in the Basilicata Region. In 2009, he was selected as a Finalist for the Descubrimientos prize at PhotoEspanaFestival 2009 (PHE09-Madrid). In July 2009 he exhibited at the "OcchiRossi" Independent Photography Festival of Rome. Reviewed with an article about his work on Reponses Photo, Mondadori France, n.212. Awarded with the Special Mention of Internazionale within the 09 FNAC photo contest. Winner of the 9° Memorial Mario Giacomelli photo contest. Finalist of the G. Amilcare Ponchielli (GRIN) Award 2010.
Being part of "El tiempo del Diablo" exhibition, he has exhibited at ISFCI (Rome, 12/2009), SU PALATU (Villanova Monteleone, 02/2010), Villa Lagarina (Trento), ArtèFotoFestival (Castelli di Jesi, 2010), Indipendent Photo Festival of IVREA, Festival della Pace, GROSSETO. His work has been projected at the Boutographies PhotoFestival Of Montpellier 2010, Projection du Jury and at AtriInMontion, projections at Atri Photography Festival.
Matteo Gozzi is at the current moment based in Italy.
